~Fangs Of Premise~
CHAPTER 1:
Theories
I woke dazed, and ill with pain. Alice, my friend, sat at my corner starring at me with an unfathomable expression. I moaned as I seated myself up right, examining the infirmary room. Charcoal colored curtains were drawn to block the gaze of the sun in the window at the end of the lengthy room.
“So…,” I progressed, “What’s the verdict?”
Alice, stuttered,
“The doctor said you have nothing more than a couple of cuts here and there in addition to the sprained ankle on your left foot, although the rest of your body seems to be in an ordinary condition.”
I grunted in response.
“Do you want anything to drink, Veronica?” Alice inaugurated; optimism in her blue eyes.
“Water would be great.” A crooked smile formed into my pale face.
“Whatever you say,” She grinned, “I’ll be right back.”Alice swiftly lifted herself off of her chair and slid through the door, past the curve into the piercingly quiet hall-way. I sat inspecting the gashes in my arms, and the bruises I could feel under the emerald green polka-dot dress, the ambulance had replaced with my sweater and jeans. I weaved my hair to the back of my neck, and then with curiosity I examined the pressure cuff a nurse had most likely situated on my wrist earlier, while I was still unconscious. I removed the cuff unhurriedly, waiting for Alice to return with the water I had asked her for moments before. I felt obligated to stand-up, so as the ever-present instinct instructed, I followed. I swung my feet to the side, and bit-by-bit I pushed my self down to touch the floor, which had a sub-zero, glacial feel that sent shivers up my spine. I looked below to see my bandaged foot, pastel colored bruises, barely visible, made a barrier around the end of the receding swath of bandages. I finally stood up, holding on to the bed in order to balance my self. At that moment Alice walked in, a cup of ice water in her hand and a broad smile spread out across her face.
“Sorry,” she began, “I couldn’t find the…”
“I don’t mind,” I interrupted, taking the cup from her hand. I took a sip gracefully, and was enchanted by the delight it had brought upon my bitterly dry mouth. Alice was cautious, examining my movements blissfully; content to see me doing better after seeing the crash. I was still quite surprised of the crash, after gliding across the ice into the forest, I had stilled walked away with no more foul than a sprained ankle and other minor injuries. Alice waited in patience at my side, reading my expressions. I stared at her and smirked; happy she had stuck around until I regained my consciousness.
“What time is it?” I questioned as the silence broke.
